Dr. Pankaj Asawa is a seasoned Ophthalmologist from Pune in Maharashtra with surgical experience in Trabeculectomy, Extracapsular Cataract Extraction, Lid Surgeries, Intraocular Lens Implant Surgeries, Combined Surgery for Cataract & Glaucoma, Phacoemulsification, Triple procedure, Non-phaco Small Incision Cataract surgery, Dacryocystectomies, Probing and Dacryocystrohinostomies, Squint Surgery, and Oculopasties. Dr. Asawa is keen in performing quality Phacoemulsification techniques for his patients.
Dr. Asawa is an alumnus of Shivaji University, where he has completed MBBS and MS in Ophthalmology. He also has completed Indirect Opthalmoscopy Course at Arvind Eye Hospital, Madurai. After accomplishing MBBS, Dr. Aswawa worked at Solapur's General Hospital as House Surgeon and its Department of Ophthalmology as Senior Resident. His responsibities as Senior Resident included teaching programme to final year MBBS students, and training junior residents in clinical diagnosis and surgeries.
During 1993 to 1996, Dr. Asawa worked as fellow in General Opthalmology at Arvind Eye Hospital, Madurai. It is during this stint, he had undergone extensive training in Penetrating Keratoplasties. He was part of an initiative of World Bank named as Mobile Project which provided him an opportunity to participate in more than 250 eye camps where he was entrusted to the job of screening as well as operating patients. These eye camps saw Dr. Asawa performing over 2500 intraocular implantation surgeries along with various other anterior segment surgeries.
In 1998, Dr. Asawa started his practice in Pune. He is currently operating at Krishna General Hospital, Surya Hospital, Poona Hospital, Jotbagi Hospital, Lifeline Hospital, Aundh and Day Care Eye Clinic & Around Pune; doing exclusively Phacoemulsification and non – phacosuturless cataract extraction. He performs 200 IOL surgeries per month besides attending patients at his Day Care Eye Centre at Aundh.
Dr. Asawa has attended a surgical camp in Kenya in April 2004 which was organised by Shri Jain Youth League and performed over 200 intraocular lens implant surgeries in 5 days. He has also attended Asia Pacific Opthalmology Conference held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in March 2005.
